This winter has proven to be a cold one for many, and like many, I am counting down the days for the Spring weather to come our way! For our home, Spring means so many things to us.
One of the things we look forward to working on and enjoying as a family is the planning and preparation of our gardens. We start by working on sprouting seeds in our greenhouses that will then be transplanted later in the season after the last frost, to the various garden beds.
We also look forward to the new baby animals on our little farm. Our chickens and ducks tend to not only lay a lot of eggs we enjoy cooking with and sharing with neighbors year round but also lay eggs that will produce baby chicks to add to our flocks.
The counting of eggs is always fun when we have ducks and hens setting. The kids love marking the eggs so they don’t accidentally get mistaken for eggs used for cooking. They also enjoy moving the baby chicks to our little nursery area, where we have brooders to keep them warm as they grow.
Along with the gardens and animals, we also do some Spring cleaning both in the house as well as throughout our property. This includes the clearing out of downed trees, clearing and pruning of bushes, along with the prep work we put into each of our garden areas. The garden areas can be a challenge due to the weeds that might pop up, the need for tilling the land, and the addition of fresh fertilizer from our compost to the tops of the garden areas.
Then, when it comes to indoor Spring cleaning, we prepare our closets by putting away cold-weather items and replacing them with stored warm-weather items. We also go through and deep clean the entire home, open the windows on the warmer days to let in the fresh air and organize areas such as the office and storage areas that might need tidying up. Making the Spring cleaning, more of a set of chores that involves everyone working together in our home to prepare for the warmer months ahead!

The bright sunshine and warm breeze in the spring is invigorating and motivating to start on spring cleaning and the windows is at the top of my list. Love seeing the birds in the trees, flowers and tree buds sprouting and green grass.
